Over Reliance of Drugs Increases the Likelihood of Drug Abuse among Children Drug abuse is the use of drugs for purposes that they are not meant for. Drug enhancing among students is a form of drug abuse. At times, problems that can be solved using other means apart from drugs ought to be solved, minus the drugs. People at times are too quick to jump into the drugs solution, which is an easier way out of problems instead of taking the longer, hard way out of any particular problem. Just like Gup found out as he narrates the ordeal with his son who died at the age of 21 from drug abuse, early exposure of drugs to children is dangerous. This paper will analyse the dangers of use of drugs among young children and their contribution to the use of hard drugs. Gup points out that he is worried about the high numbers of children who are diagnosed with attention problems. His son is among the 6.4 billion children who have received that diagnoses, which came quite early, when he was in his first grade. When he sought for treatment, many doctors prescribed medication for the kid, which made his father quite nervous. He knew that there were a number of options available for exploitation to revert the problem. However, the fact that most of the doctors swore not to meet the patient until he was introduced to medication made the parent succumb to the demands of the doctors. He introduced the child to the drugs, starting with Ritalin and later Adderall. Little did he know the effect of these drugs to the child, who by then was at a young age. He explains that the child’s battery would be sometimes too large for his body, an effect of the drugs. This condition made him leap from the couch and spring to reach to the ceiling. However, at the age of 21, all the exorbitance nature of the young boy ended when he was found lying dead in the floor of his room. By then, he was in senior college. His death was as a result of a mixture of alcohol and drugs. Gup (n.p.) argues that according to his family, his son was an angel. Nobody ever suspected that he could have been a drug addict. Although he says that nobody contributed to the problems imposed by the child to consider use of heroin and alcohol, he acknowledges that he was a contributing factor to the developments that affected his life. He accuses himself for having introduced his son to drugs at a young age. He reveals that unknown to everybody; his son was a trader in Adderall. He had actually created a submarket in school where he sold the drug among his classmates. They were too eager to lay their hands on the drug, and were more than willing to buy it. The drug is put into uses that were not even meant for its manufacture, and are often not tested in children. Due to the fact that children currently grows in an environment that encourages the use of drugs for various non-reasonable reasons. They keep emulating the professionals who are always constantly under medication. The students have found other uses for the drugs such as classroom enhancers to improve on their performance. He accuses these growing and worrying trends on abandonment, as parents have let the children with too much freedom that they are mostly on their own. The issue of permissive use of drugs instead of diagnosis has bigger effects than just hyperactivity. According to the latest information by the American Psychological association, the use of drugs and its relation to disorders has become a culture. Whether it has created a window of increased professionalism in the society, its dangers are far more devastating in the long run. The fact that these drugs cannot be kept out of the children, while doctors are prescribing them for students poses increased dangers to the young generation of professionals. Ted tries to differentiate between grief and depression. He notes that while both exhibit similar characteristics to people, they are often confused. Both exhibit similar symptoms of reduced interest in life, loss of appetite, irregular sleep or low functionality. The author believes that the notion of media claiming to solve everything including sex and sleep is wrong. He is however worried that being human is a condition in which he much is equally worried about. In trying to contain grief that we face in everyday life, we confuse it with depression. Challenges and hardships, according to him have been pathologized and monetized. He notes that increasingly, we have embraced shortcuts in life which are weak, avoiding long methods of solving problems that are strong. Such are the shortcuts that we opt for in life, leading to the confusion between grief and depression. The biggest risk of confusing the two is the realization that broken hearts are not entirely medical cases. The author, in an effort to give a solution proposes on monitoring of student behaviour. The fact that children do not only study in school but also at home, is a clear indication of the heightened level of neglect by parents to their children. To ensure that they do not imitate such negative trends from the society, it is important to monitor their studies during home studies. However, since a parent cannot follow them to school, the best thing to do is keep drugs away from their lives. According to the author, early introduction of drugs to his son at a very young age was a reason for his drug abuse behaviour. Perhaps this was a contributing factor for his sons’ drug abuse, but not entirely a reason for his behaviour. A number of reasons contribute to the person’s drug abuse habits. Use of treatment drugs is just one of them. The kind of friends that he kept with could have been contributing factor of his behaviour. However, entirely still, it cannot be ruled out that his early use of Apparel could not have been a contributing factor to the child’s indulgence in drug abuse. His system could have been used to too much drugs that when he grew up, he needed stronger drugs to keep his system balanced. From the article, the biggest contribution to the erosion of, morals in the society and increased use of drugs among the children especially students is the fact that we have increasingly embraced shortcuts instead of choosing the tedious long ways of problem solving. Of course the ease of short cuts is time solving, but its eventual outcome is more devastating than the time saved. The over reliance on drugs took away his son at the age of 21, a situation that could have been avoided if he had opted for an alternative method of problem his disorder. Drugs are a reason for the increased social issues that have kept a breast with the society. To save the young generation, it is important to separate the professionalism lifestyle from the children and let them lead normal lives away from over reliance on drugs. Read More
