Children and Toilet Training Introduction Toilet readiness is one of the most powerful and conceptual tool and needs to have an objective viewpoint at the willingness of the children to start with and proceed with the training. It also depends upon the preparedness of the parents in terms of their child's training. Adding to the readiness, it is essential that the practitioners identify numerous other mitigating conditions and issues which may make the process of the children's toilet training more complex. These might entail the separation of child from parents for many hours every day. This may be done when the child is under care, or has health conditions like the chronic illness, developmental delays, or disabilities. Toilet Training in Children The toilet training can be a difficult task to make for both the child and for the parents. Learning beyond cleanliness demands that the child is able to control his sphincters. The potty training should not be a showdown with the child. As with any change, the child will own pace but will not like to be imposed orders upon, unless he/she suffers from a more serious malfunction the housetraining will. A child's own habits develop in the average age of around 2.5 years to 3 years, but there is nothing wrong if the child does still not act at that age (Lieberman, 1985). There is nothing wrong with those the situations if child is clean day, but he does bedwetting still at the age of 4 years. The potty training is a shift towards greater autonomy and as all the steps to grow it asks the child to give up the previous habits. The children also face greater autonomy proof, to put the school, for example. When it comes to potty training, each child is different. Some children are ready to become clean from the age of 18 months, but most are interested in between 2 and 4 years. On average, there are majority of children who start to learn the use of potty by the time their second birthday approaches. However, like every other thing regarding the development of child, every child is different. When the children reach the 20 months of their growth and development, they empty their bladders more frequently, and this becomes difficult for them to master holding on for the restroom. This adds the tricky management of their clothing as well. There are numerous parents, for whom it is easier to train their child for the toilet during the times of summer, when it is easy for the toddlers to stay with lesser clothing on them. The boys can take longer to learn for the potty as compared to girls (BBC, 2012). Preparing the Child The children need to be prepared for the toilet training form their initial phases of development. The parents need to allow their children to be present when they go to the bathroom i order to make the children feel comfortable in the bathroom. The children should be made to practice flushing in the toilet. Prior to the children's toilet training, a potty chair should be placed in the normal living of a child and in the play area so in order to make the child become familiar with the potty training. The potty chair should be placed in every floor of the house in case the house is multilevel (Steindler, 1980). The children should also be allowed to touch, feel and become aware with the potty chair. Most children leave diapers at any time after 24 months (sometimes a little earlier). Some do it in a completely spontaneous, without anyone saying anything. Other children sphincter control costs them more. Girls tend to be more precocious than boys. They start controlling urine and feces during the day and, later, also at night. Many children (about 10%) wet themselves in bed until age 6. The children should be told that the potty chair is their own chair (Lexeme, Christophersen, 1995). They should be trained to sit on the potty chair fully clothed and leave it any time. However, they should not be compelled to spend longer time on the chair. Once the child has become accustomed to using the potty chair, and stays with his regular clothing on, the parents can try and train their child to sit on the potty chair without wearing a diaper and pants. They are also to be told how to use the chair (FamilyDoctor.org, 2012). The child is probably ready to be toilet trained clean if: he/she retains the stability and balance when sitting on the potty chair, stays dry in his bed for several hours, has regular bowel and predictable movements, can let the parents know when he needs to use the toilet, want to be independent. Helping Child in Toilet Training A proper planning is required to help children get trained for toilet. They do not become clean in a flash. It has to be made sure that the parents have time to patiently help their child every day. It may take several months for him to be clean. Parents need to observe the signs he gives you to tell you it is ready to take the next step. They are required to put your child in clothes that can go up and down easily. Parents choose the words they use to talk about body parts and fluids and body functions. It is best to be direct. It is essential to avoid confusion or embarrassment if they use real words. The negative words like "dirty" or "smelly", which can embarrass the child, need to be avoided. They should let their child watch them use the toilet. The children feel more stable and secure in a small pot on the toilet, because his/her feet touch the ground. If parents do not use the potty, their will need a suitable seat and a stool for the child The next important elements in children's toilet training are practice. When the child is ready, it is the responsibility of parents to help him get used to the toilet. Their routine should be established by having their child sit on the toilet at specific times of the day, for example after getting up in the morning, after meals or snacks before naps and bedtime (Braselton, 1980). It is necessary to look for signs that your child gives the parents to tell that he/she needs to go to the toilet. Moreover, the children should be taught to wipe out and wash their hands after using the toilet. Conclusion Toilet training is one of the important aspects of the child's developmental phases. It enables the children to stay healthy, clean and have the knowledge regarding hygiene. When teaching child for toilet, parents need to plan and practice properly so that the children are able to understand well.
