of Berkeley is a world renowned offering excellent degree programs in the various fields of interdisciplinary academic areas ofinterest and research. Im applying to UC Berkeley as a mass communication major and UCLA as a mass media. It has been my one of the most cherished dream to pursue my higher studies from this University. The university has an envious reputation of not only offering a highly personalized degree but believes in promoting a wide scope of personal development by facilitating cross cultural interaction and community development with a high sensitivity towards environment conservation.

I believe that we need to cultivate sensitivity towards issues that has wide ranging effect on everyone and this University offers the best of the both: excellent academic programs and opportunities of personal development. My mother has been my inspiration who has taught me to appreciate the cross cultural values and apply rationalized approach to issues with belief and perseverance. Being a bright student all through my school days, I have often been part of student exchange program and travelled to Australia, Canada and other places.

The exposure to other cultures has vastly strengthened my belief that understanding cross cultural values and overcoming the language barrier is important for effective communication. My exposure in market research company, Sentanium, in the fall of 2007, taught me techniques of market research and analysis so as to effectively apply theory into practice. I realized that I have great potential in the field of public relation and mass media. The belief was strengthened when I took on leadership roles in student organizations at Diablo Valley College (DVC) as vice president of Leadership and Management, Director of ICC publicity, and treasurer of Not-for-profit Club.

Under my initiatives, the newspaper saw unprecedented increase in readership and membership to the club. Recently, when some corporate bodies like Cisco had come forward to actively participate in the reconstruction of society after the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina, I realized that I would also make effort to contribute towards the society. My internship from Strategy and Development department in Pohang Munwha Broadcasting Corporation in Korea in the summer 2008, gave me opportunity to do exactly that.

I was able to persuade the program producer to televise a single person’s strive to promote the living condition of solitary senior citizen by means of providing rice and essential foods. The broader objective was to change the general misconception that only grandiose plan can make a difference to society and show how an individual’s everyday effort can also make a huge difference. The program was a huge success. I was motivated to further apply the theoretical aspect of market research into practice with commendable success and improve the performance outcome of the show.

The learning experience in the various fields has made me determined to take admission in the university. The various modules of the course curricula are designed to provide persons with a strong knowledge based degree which would facilitate more efficient and accurate decision making process in the management and administration in the various elements of the mass media. The emerging new social model requires a more comprehensive and innovative approach to meet the challenges of the new global scenario.

The University is renowned in providing a state of the art technology and innovative curricula to meet the changing demands of the time and therefore I think that Berkeley is the right choice for me.
