As evidenced in the position of women in the Middle East and Iranian society, much debate arises from these actions. Despite the women from the region portraying interest in public affairs, they still to date remain barred by customs and traditions mostly affiliated to the Islamic religion. These conditions reduce the women’s position in the society to men’s object. Despite men assuming the predominant figure among women, their rights are also limited in one way or another (Kamrava 2010). Persepolis is a memoir by Satrapi that tries to dispel the western media portrayal of Iran as a country where the citizens live miserably due to the systems of administration.

The paper examines the work of Satrapi in Persepolis while consequently giving the researchers approach and conclusion towards the impact of the work. The graphic memoir of Maryjane Satrapi presents a different version of what the world perceives about the Axis of evil. She describes the living situation of individuals within Iraq as one that encompasses the hope and healthy living. The work does, however, live to its purpose though expression made through difficulty. The worlds’ perception of Iran is not based on imagery but facts and particular reason, Satrapi employs wit to confirm simultaneously and right away dispel these notions preconceived by the world at large.

She effectively challenges the perception that Iran population comprises of fanatic Muslims, who present the radical nature mostly associated with Iran. She portrays the belief the world that whenever people think about Iranians, they perceive them as people living miserable lives characterized by sadness and terror with fundamentalism and fanaticism and the main drivers of war and terror (Satrapi 2003). Despite the fact that misery and depression are evident in the Iranians lives, the entire story is much different.
